CAIRO, Egypt - Al-Qaida's No. 2 figure harshly criticized Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi in a new audio tape Saturday, accusing him of being an enemy of Islam and threatening a wave of attacks against the North African country because it improved relations with the U.S.
In the 28-minute audio tape called "Unity of the Ranks," Ayman al-Zawahri also announced that the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group was joining ranks with al-Qaida.
"The Islamic nation is witnessing a blessed step ... The brothers are escalating the confrontation against the enemies of Islam: Gadhafi and his masters, the Washington crusaders," al-Zawahri said in the audio tape. The recording could not be independently verified, but it appeared on a Web site commonly used by insurgents and carried the logo of al-Qaida's media production house, as-Sahab.
This is an indicator of what I have been saying for awhile now. Fazlur Rahman first crossed al Qaeda by giving Libya info on a terror cell linked to al Qaeda that was also a libyan opposition group. Al Qaeda has lost Qadaffi sponsorship. They have also lost Fazlur Rahman. Al Qaeda is struggling to survive as it looses sponsors such as these. Note that this new video is again about "Unity of the Ranks" which shows how much of a problem this is for al Qaeda right now.
Clarification: Since the trolls have come out and this needs extra explanation for them (because they only read Huff Po and Kos tripe) when I say Al Qaeda has lost Qadaffi sponsorship I mean via the Maulana. Qadaffi funneled money to the Maulana which then was used to support the Paki jihadis, Taliban and ultimately al Qaeda. Qadaffi wanted to placate the jihadis by sponsoring them in Pakistan through the Maulana. This does not mean Usama bin Laden and Qadaffi were best buddies. But as always, in the interests of intellectual dishonesty, these trolls come out and try to take a point to the extreme instead of taking it in the context I have offered in my many writings on this subject. What pathetic, ignorant lives they lead. I almost feel sad for them because they can't help it, their brains are just wired wrong.
Ray is way off-track, as usual. Gaddafi had asked Interpol to issue an arrest warrant for Osama bin Laden and various members of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) in March 1998. The request was allegedly thwarted by the United Kingdom because MI6 and Islamic militants, were, shall we say, both in one trench. [1] The relationship was damaged on 11 September, even though the British continued to support the LIFG until late 2005. Some of their number were arrested in my neck of the woods, funnily enough.
