Update below: the original post
Captain's Quarters also has a post about a document that refers to moving WMD into the Rashad area. I looked at the document and my non-expert stab at the date (waiting to hear from Sammi) is Jan 24th, 2002. I decided to google al Rashad and came up with this BBC article.
United Nations weapons inspectors have completed their first field visit in Iraq for four years.
AND
The team our correspondent was following visited the al-Tahadi factory, in the al-Rashad suburb about 13 kilometres (8 miles) north-east of the capital.
So the very first location inspected by the UN after a four year absence was al Rashad. Could it be that this site was chosen first because of intelligence that WMD was hidden there? Of course, this is speculation, but pretty reasonable.
Later in the article:
As the inspections began, air raid sirens sounded over Baghdad.
Iraqi officials say they were set off by Western planes flying over the city.
The Iraqi capital is just north of a southern no-fly zone regularly patrolled by US and British planes.
But both US and UK officials denied there had been any activity over Baghdad.
A possible signal to warn that a UN inspection team was on the way? It would be simple enough if you knew you were hiding weapons there to set up a signal in case the UN team went in that direction. Perhaps better than a phone call which could be monitored. Again, pure speculation but something to think about. The article then goes on to say the site was inspected but nothing was found. Is it possible that the WMD was there but so well hidden it was missed? Just a thought....
UPDATE:
And the mystery is solved: Sammi
this document is from IRIB not from an Iraqi government source.
The weapons are moved to Al Rachad and not Al Rachid area.
It is an iranian document! They probably got it through their agents.
Ray: so what does that mean? Don't know and don't care right now since this is not even an Iraqi document.
Here is the full translation:
IRIB World Service Regime’s broadcast in Arabic 24-1-2002
The area is covered with many trees and orchards.
The doc refers to 1/02, but the UN didn't go back to Rashad until when? (bear in mind that Georges Sada's story about movement of wmd took place in June/July/Aug of 02. Also of note, the ISG reported that Saddam's regime ordered nerve agent protective gear as well as meds from a Turkish front company in 8/02, MSM and ISG reported that the regime was getting the expensive chem suits etc in 8 and 9/02, and US forces found LOTS AND LOTS of chem gear in Iraqi position as they approached Baghdad (pics avail upon req).
I think the dates are important to note-on the docs, in the reports, and in the allegations of removal. Combining them paints a picture that's much easier to prove imo.

Scott,
Do you have a timeline going for all of the events related to possible WMD movement?

Yes, but it's incomplete-needs more work. Anyone want one, email me at [email protected] (warning, it's in excel)
